Amien is the head of our Forensics & Fraud Investigation practice. With a vast depth and breadth of experience, Amien joined Assegaf Hamzah & Partners as the former Head of SKK Migas (2014-2018), the government body responsible for managing Indonesia’s oil and gas resources. In this role, Amien led the modernisation and improvement of SKK Migas’ corporate governance and transparency procedures, including managing supervision of contractors under the cooperation contract scheme, especially in relation to cost recovery. Amien established a rigorous, international standard (ISO 37001certified) Anti-Bribery Management System that is now used throughout SKK Migas, and which in turn encourages oil and gas business players in Indonesia to do the same.
A forensic accountant by training, Amien is known to be detail-oriented and progressive. Prior to SKK Migas, Amien was a partner in the fraud investigation and disputes department of one of the big four accounting firms, where he ran investigations into commercial fraud, asset recovery, money-laundering and other business crimes, and led the dispute resolution team to resolve a range of domestic and cross-border commercial disputes. In the anti-bribery and anti-corruption space, Amien has held significant positions advising the World Bank Indonesia as senior governance and anti-corruption officer, and as Vice-Commissioner of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi), or KPK. Amien played a significant role in bringing progressive changes to the KPK, most notably by implementing a ‘search and surveillance’ system to reveal high profile corruption cases.
Amien leads the Forensics & Fraud Investigation team to assist companies to protect their reputations and resolve commercial disputes, leveraging digital forensics and data analytics to improve compliance and investigation outcomes. The Forensics & Fraud Investigation team also benefits from seamless collaboration with other practice groups within Assegaf Hamzah & Partners, namely capital markets, banking & finance, competition, mergers & acquisitions, alternative dispute resolution and court litigation. In addition, as part of the Rajah & Tann Asia network, the team is backed by experts and legal resources in nine Asian jurisdictions, with intimate knowledge of their own domestic commercial and legal landscapes. As a result, Amien and his team are able to launch and coordinate actions across multiple jurisdictions.
