Chambers recognizes Assegaf Hamzah as Indonesia Law Firm of the Year

Assegaf Hamzah & Partners was named Indonesia Law Firm of the Year 2014 at the Chambers Asia Pacific Awards in Hong Kong on Monday (Jan 17). UK-based Chambers is the world’s leading publisher of global legal-profession rankings.

Commenting on the award, Chambers noted that “This highly reputed team has gone from strength to strength in recent years. It is particularly singled out in the capital markets sphere where it handles a range of issuer-side mandates; Its M&A and banking and finance practices are also highly praised and attract substantial, cross-border instructions. A recently announced tie-up with Singapore’s Rajah & Tann further extends its Asia-wide reach.”

Mr. Fikri Assegaf, Managing Partner, Assegaf Hamzah, commented: “This marks another remarkable milestone in the development of our firm. I would just like to thank everyone for all their hard work down the years, and most importantly of all, our clients and business partners for the consistent support they have shown us. For us, client service has always been at the forefront of all that we do and I think this award is testament to that.”

The Chambers’ top national law firm awards recognize law firms’ pre-eminence in key practice areas and reflect notable achievements over the past 12 months, including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth and excellence in client service. The award is given to the leading national and international law firm in each country surveyed, based on research for the 2013 edition of Chambers’ Asia-Pacific.

Assegaf Hamzah is now the third largest law firm in Indonesia, with some 74 fee earners and award-winning practices in capital markets, corporate finance, and mergers & acquisitions. The firm is also a market leader in competition law, aviation, technology, telecommunications, and commercial litigation/arbitration.

The year 2013 was one of extraordinary growth for Assegaf Hamzah. In March, the firm entered into an alliance in with Singapore-based Rajah & Tann, the region’s largest law firm, to establish a common platform that provides Assegaf Hamzah’s clients with access to an arsenal of more than 430 lawyers across the region and a physical presence in eight out of the 10 Asean countries.

The firm’s growth continued apace in October, when it merged with boutique competition practice Rizkiyana & Iswanto, a move that makes Assegaf Hamzah the Indonesian market leader in competition law. Prior to the merger, Rizkiyana & Iswanto was one of only two Indonesian firms listed in Global Competition Review’s ‘elite category’

Chambers, based in London, has since 1990 published the world’s leading guides to the legal profession and has built a reputation for in-depth, objective research. The publication boasts a team of over 130 highly qualified full-time researchers who conduct thousands of interviews with lawyers and their clients worldwide every year.
