Assegaf Hamzah & Partners : “Announce New Partners”

Assegaf Hamzah & Partners (AHP) is pleased to announce:

            1. The appointment of Mr. Farid Nasution as a new partner of AHP in the Competition Practice Group, effective from 4 June 2018
            2. The appointment of Ms. Carol Lim by Christopher & Lee Ong (CLO), a member firm of Rajah & Tann Asia Network in Malaysia, as a partner of CLO, effective from 4 June 2018. Carol has been working with AHP since 2015.

AHP is also pleased to welcome Ms. Dewi Kamaratih Soeharto to the firm as our partner in the Intellectual Property (IP) practice as well as the co-head of the IP practice, following the merger of AHP with Dewi Soeharto Law Partnership on 5 June 2018.

Our new partners with great talent reflect the firm’s commitment to never stop developing our exceptional client service experience and our best technical abilities.

Please join us to congratulating them.

Prior to joining AHP in 2016, Farid worked at the Indonesian Competition Commission (KPPU) for more than 7 years. He was the head of Prosecution Division and then the head of Merger and Acquisition sub-directorate. During his time at the KPPU, he also led the drafting of the Indonesian Merger Regulation and the first KPPU Merger Guidelines. He then spent 5 years in another prominent law firm in Indonesia, specializing in anti-trust/competition, trade and general corporate.

Farid has acted for many prominent clients in merger filings, competition litigation, advisory and competition compliance. He has deep experience in many sectors, including telecommunication, pharmaceutical, automotive, motorcycle, energy and mining, oil and gas, banking and finance, insurance and public procurement. As a trade lawyer, he also advises clients in various trade aspects, including public procurement, import, retails, standardization, and ASEAN free trade agreements.

He is currently representing, among others, Yamaha Indonesia and Danone against the KPPU’s allegations of anti-competitive conducts.

He co-authored the Indonesian chapter of the 2015 edition of Kluwer’s “Competition in the Asia-Pacific: A Practitioner’s Guide”, and is also a regular contributor to both the American Bar Association’s “Annual Review of Antitrust Law Developments” and the Indonesian Legal Business Journal.

In addition, Farid currently serves as the Secretary General of the ASEAN Competition Institute and the Chairman of the Education and Training Division in the Indonesian Competition Lawyers Association. Since 2016, he has been an instructor of Competition and Trade Law class at the Indonesian Institute of Corporate Directorship.

He is a licensed advocate (PERADI) and a certified public procurement expert. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Politics (2000) and Law (2002) from Padjadjaran University, Bandung and an LL.M degree from Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam (2006).

Carol has been a member of the Malaysian Bar since 2008. She was called to the Bar of England and Wales in September in 2005 and is a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, England. She has been working as an associate with AHP since 2015 and is registered as a foreign advocate with the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI).

She has been practicing corporate law in the emerging markets of the ASEAN region since 2008. Her work is primarily focused on cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

As part of her M&A practice, she is routinely involved in corporate and commercial matters including foreign direct investments, joint ventures, equity and debt investments, cross border investments and transactional structuring. She has represented Indonesian and foreign investors comprising private and public companies, private equity and venture capital firms, multinational corporations and state-owned enterprises. Carol’s recent key engagements include:

            • representing a global multinational technology conglomerate in its investment of approximately US$ 1 billion in one of Indonesia’s largest e-commerce platforms, cementing its position as one of the few unicorns in Southeast Asia (2017).
            • representing global private equity and venture capital firms in its investments in Go-Jek, an Indonesian technology start up that specialises in ride-hailing, logistics and digital payments, and currently one of the few unicorns in Southeast Asia (2016).
            • representing PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex), Southeast Asia’s largest textile manufacturer in Indonesia, in its acquisition of two leading manufacturers and exporters of fine quality spun yarns (2018).
            • representing a global private equity investment firm, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) in its acquisition of a 12.64% stake in leading Indonesian bread company – Sari Roti (2017).
            • representing a regional private equity and venture capital firm in its various investments in the food and beverage sector in Indonesia (2017).

Dewi started her legal career in 1989. She first joined Lubis Hadiputranto Ganie Surowidjojo and established Hanafiah Soeharto Ponggawa. She then set up her own firm Dewi Soeharto Law Partnership (DSLP) in 1996 and has focused her firm’s practice in Intellectual Property (IP) law since 2007.

She led the successful development for her boutique firm until it became one of the most sought-out Indonesian law firms for IP practice. Her expertise and high ability to serve clients have made numerous prominent blue-chip companies and social institutions select and continue to use her firm over the years. She has been assisting one of the world’s largest media companies since 1992.

She is experienced in full IP services, which include: copyrights, trademark, patent, industrial design, layout design of integrated circuit, and trade secret. She is a person with visions and sees through the legal market demands. She aims to develop lesser-known IP rights such as plant variety protection, geographical indication and product design registration in Indonesia.

Dewi holds an IP rights consultant licence from the Ministry of Laws and Human Rights, an advocate’s professional certificate from the Indonesian Bar Association (Peradi) and a bachelor of laws from the University of Indonesia. She was the Deputy Vice Chairman and the Treasury of the Association of Indonesian IP right consultants (AKHKI) and the Treasury of the Indonesian capital market legal consultants association.

She is now sharing her professionalism with AHP after its merger with DSLP on 5 June 2018. She is our partner and the co-head of the IP practice, together with AHP’s co-head, Mr. Chandra Hamzah, a well-respected litigator.
