AHP Takes Five Awards at Inaugural Indonesia Law Awards

Assegaf Hamzah & Partners emerged as one of the top two biggest winners at the first-ever Asian Legal Business Indonesia Law Awards, with the Firm garnering a total of five awards, including Managing Partner of the Year, which went to Ahmad Fikri Assegaf.

The event, held on Oct. 28 at the InterContinental Jakarta Midplaza, recognized Indonesia’s best law firms, legal work and lawyers across a total of 23 categories.

Assegaf Hamzah received awards for the following categories: M & A Deal of the Year, Indonesia Deal of the Year, Dispute Resolution Law Firm of the Year, insolvency and Restructuring Law Firm of the Year, and Managing Partner of the Year.

Assegaf Hamzah’s Managing Partner, Fikri Assegaf, expressed his appreciation for the awards, saying that they represented concrete recognition of the Firm’s determination to go the extra mile in providing top quality legal services to its clients.

“These awards will further strengthen our commitment to continuing to provide quality legal services, and maintaining the highest level of professional ethics in serving our clients,” Fikri added.

Commenting on Assegaf Hamzah’s taking the Indonesia Deal of the Year and M&A Deal of the Year awards for the Firm’s instrumental role as the purchaser’s representative in XL Axiata’s USD 865,000,000 acquisition of Axis Telekom (one of the biggest deals ever in Indonesian telecommunications history), M&A partner Bono Daru Adji said that everyone at Assegaf Hamzah was very proud that the firm’s role in the deal had been so comprehensively recognized. The deal, he said, was both very complex and challenging, and involved a significant cross-border element that spanned seven different jurisdictions.

“It is great to be recognized like this for the all the hard work the entire team put into this deal based on a very tight schedule. We are all very pleased and honored,” Bono said.

The Indonesia Law Awards 2014 were organized by Asian Legal Business, a Thomson Reuters publication based in Singapore that is one of the most widely read legal journals in Southeast and East Asia, in collaboration with www.hukumonline.com, Indonesia’s largest online legal publisher.

The ALB awards mark the second major recognition this year of Assegaf Hamzah’s membership of the top flight of Indonesian law firms, with the Firm having been named Chambers & Partners Indonesia Law Firm of the Year on February 17. The UK-based Chambers is the world’s leading publisher of global legal-profession rankings.

Assegaf Hamzah, which was established in 2001, boasts a long list of international awards and accolades from highly regarded organizations and publications, including legal directories Chambers International, The Asia Pacific Legal 500, Asia Law Profiles and the IFLR1000, all of which rank Assegaf Hamzah as a top-tier law firm in many practice areas.

Today, Assegaf Hamzah has 17 partners and some 65 associates, all of whom have extensive experience representing blue-chip domestic and multinational corporations, government institutions, state enterprises and high net-worth individuals. Assegaf Hamzah partners are also consistently recognized as “leading individuals” in many areas of legal practice.

Assegaf Hamzah recently inaugurated a strategic alliance with Singapore-based Rajah & Tann, the largest law firm in Southeast Asia. By joining the Rajah & Tann Asia network, Assegaf Hamzah now enjoys access to an arsenal of more than 500 lawyers across the region, including Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and China, as well as Indonesia.
